The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast contrasting weather conditions across the country over the next week, with intense monsoon activity expected in eastern and northeastern regions, while parts of South India continue to face hot and humid conditions.
IMD scientist Akhil told ANI that the focus of weather activity has shifted towards East and Northeast India, where a strong convective system is likely to trigger heavy rainfall over the next seven days.
“We anticipate that the primary focus of rainfall and convective activity during the week will be Eastern and Northeastern India, where warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall have been issued for various days. Heavy rainfall warnings are in place for Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh over the next seven days. An ‘extremely heavy rainfall’ warning has been issued for Meghalaya and parts of Bengal for today,” Akhil said.
Several states, including Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and the Gangetic West Bengal region, are also likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall during the period.
The weather department has issued a heavy rainfall warning for Uttarakhand from July 15, while Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh are expected to witness intense rainfall towards the end of the week.
In contrast, parts of South India and coastal regions are likely to experience hot and humid weather conditions. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and parts of Odisha are expected to remain under hot and humid conditions for the next three to four days, with heatwave conditions likely in coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next three days.
The IMD forecast highlights a sharp regional divide in weather patterns, with eastern and northern regions bracing for intense monsoon spells, while the southeastern coast continues to battle heat and humidity.
