Republican candidate and former US President Donald Trump on Tuesday rallied his supporters to persevere in casting their votes, calling Election Day “the most important day in American history.”
In a post on X, Trump emphasized high voter enthusiasm, stating, “It is now officially ELECTION DAY! This will be the most important day in American History. Voter enthusiasm is THROUGH THE ROOF because people want to Make America Great Again. That means lines are going to be long!”
Encouraging persistence, he added, “I need you to deliver your vote no matter how long it takes. STAY IN LINE! The Radical Communist Democrats want you to pack up and go home. Together, we are going to have a tremendous victory and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Trump’s remarks come as voters across the United States head to the polls in what has been dubbed one of the most consequential elections, with both Trump and his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, locked in a close race.
Polling hours vary across states, with most locations open from 6 am to 8 pm local time. The first polls will close at 7 pm ET (5:30 am IST) in six states, including Georgia, while the final polls close at 12 am ET (10:30 am IST) in Hawaii and Alaska. Once voting concludes, vote counting will begin, with results projected in smaller states first, while battleground states may take hours to determine a winner.
The race pits Harris, aiming to become the first woman and Indian-origin President of the US, against Trump, who seeks a historic return to the White House after losing the 2020 election. If successful, he would be the first president in over a century to serve two non-consecutive terms.
