Nepal Government Lifts TikTok Ban with New Regulations

The Government of Nepal has officially lifted the ban on the popular social networking platform TikTok, albeit with certain conditions. This decision was made during a Council of Ministers meeting on Thursday, as confirmed by the Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung.

The move follows a proposal from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, developed under the guidance of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The Prime Minister had previously directed the Ministry to ensure that all social networking sites are treated equally and that appropriate legal frameworks are established.

The ban on TikTok, which was initially imposed in November 2023, was justified by concerns that the platform was contributing to various social issues. However, with new regulations in place, the government is now allowing the app to be used under stricter conditions to mitigate these concerns.
