‘New Bharat’ poised to become one of the top three global economies, says President Murmu in Mauritius

President Droupadi Murmu, during her state visit to Mauritius, highlighted India’s progress across various sectors. Speaking at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute in Port Louis, she said that ‘New Bharat’ is set to emerge as one of the top three global economies.

President Murmu reiterated the longstanding ties between India and Mauritius, highlighting the extension of OCI card to the 7th generation of Indian-origin individuals in Mauritius. The decision aims to facilitate greater opportunities for young Mauritians to reconnect with their ancestral homeland.

President Murmu stressed the historical significance of March 12 for both nations, commemorating both the Dandi March led by Mahatma Gandhi in 1930 and Mauritius Independence Day.

She also underscored the economic cooperation between India and Mauritius, emphasizing the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement signed in 2021. This agreement is expected to boost bilateral trade and enhance economic linkages between India, Mauritius, and Africa.

During her visit, President Murmu participated in the Mauritius Independence Day celebrations as the chief guest. Her presence reaffirmed the strong and cordial relations between the two countries, showcasing India’s commitment to supporting Mauritius’ development.
