Nitin Gadkari reviews key highway projects in Maharashtra, pushes for faster execution

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Monday reviewed a series of proposed high-speed and high-density corridor projects, along with key national highway developments in Maharashtra, with a focus on expediting planning and execution.

During a high-level meeting, the minister assessed progress on several strategic road corridors aimed at strengthening regional connectivity and boosting economic activity. Among the major projects discussed were the six-laning of the Nagpur-Bhandara and Bhandara-Raipur stretches, the four-laning of the Taloda-Burhanpur section, and key inter-state corridors such as Durg-Gadchiroli-Mancherial and Gadchiroli-Kanker, part of the larger Raipur-Visakhapatnam route.

Other important corridors under review included the Gwalior-Nagpur and Nagpur-Hyderabad routes, as well as the Lakhnadon-Durg-Raipur stretch. The minister also examined plans for six-laning the Nagpur-Amravati and Pune-Satara highways, along with the development of the Madhya Pradesh-Maharashtra border-Nagpur Bypass-Borkhedi stretch on NH-44.

In addition to these large-scale corridor projects, the meeting reviewed nine state-level Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) highway projects spanning a total of 527 kilometres across Maharashtra. These include key routes such as Shirur-Ahilyanagar, Ahilyanagar-Wadala, Wadala-Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna-Watur, and Nanded-Narsi-Deglur, among others, covering both four-lane and two-lane developments.

The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) said the review focused on identifying bottlenecks and accelerating project timelines to ensure timely completion. The planned infrastructure upgrades are expected to enhance logistics efficiency, improve connectivity between industrial and rural regions, and support overall economic growth in the state.
