On the foundation day of MP, Gwalior bags UNESCO’s Music City tag

On the foundation day of Madhya Pradesh, great news has come for the people of the state. UNESCO has selected Gwalior as the 'City of Music' in the field of music. Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has expressed happiness about this.

Gwalior is the land of the great musician Tansen. In the world of music, Gwalior Gharana is respected all over the world. The Scindia family here has been preserving and flourishing this heritage for centuries. The people of the entire Chambal division are giving maximum credit to Jyotiraditya Scindia for this latest achievement of Gwalior.

Minister Scindia has expressed happiness for this achievement on his official X (Formerly Twitter) handle. He has written, 'On the occasion of Madhya Pradesh Foundation Day, it is a proud historical moment for the state, especially for the people of Gwalior. I am extremely happy to inform you that UNESCO has recognised Gwalior as 'City of Music'. This achievement is the result of our tireless efforts in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, the Government of India, and the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department. This achievement of Gwalior will establish a new identity for Madhya Pradesh on the world stage and will open new doors of development and employment.

It is noteworthy that Scindia has been trying for this for a long time. He had discussed in detail the musical gharana and heritage of Gwalior in a letter written to UNESCO in June. In this letter, Scindia specifically mentioned the great musicians of Gwalior Gharana, Baiju Bawra, and Tansen. He also explained the Guru-disciple tradition of Gwalior Gharana.

Union Minister Scindia has said that now the music of Gwalior will have a new identity on the world stage. International music events will also boost tourism. Scindia has congratulated all the people of the state for this historic achievement and congratulated them on Foundation Day. It is noteworthy that Scindia has done unprecedented work for the beautification of Gwalior. Recently, along with the expansion of Gwalior Airport, the Municipal Corporation Market and Bada have been renovated.

After Gwalior's recognition by UNESCO, the city's music is expected to get a new identity on the world stage.
