The Lok Sabha is set to take up the Central Armed Police Forces (General Administration) Bill, 2026, on Thursday, a day after it was passed in the Rajya Sabha amid a walkout by Opposition members.
The Bill, likely to be moved by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, proposes significant changes in senior-level appointments within the CAPFs. It provides that 50 per cent of posts at the rank of Inspector General will be filled through deputation. Additionally, at least 67 per cent of posts at the rank of Additional Director General will be filled via deputation, while all posts at the levels of Special Director General and Director General will be filled exclusively through deputation.
Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which seeks to recognise Amaravati as the sole capital of the state, is scheduled to be taken up in the Rajya Sabha. The Bill was cleared by the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
In other business, reports of the Standing Committee on Rural Development and Panchayati Raj will be tabled in both Houses.
Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary will also lay the reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) on the table.
Private Members’ Business is listed on the agenda in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
On Wednesday, Parliament cleared several key bills in both Houses. The Rajya Sabha passed the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, 2026, through a voice vote after it had already been approved by the Lok Sabha on March 30. The Upper House also cleared the Central Armed Police Forces (General Administration) Bill, 2026. In the Lok Sabha, the Jan Vishwas Bill and the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, were passed.
