Parliament congratulates India’s Under-19 cricket team on World Cup triumph

The Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha on Monday congratulated the Indian Under-19 cricket team for winning the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026 held in Zimbabwe.

Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan congratulated the Indian Under-19 team, describing the World Cup win as a moment of immense pride for the nation. He said the victory underlined the depth of talent, commitment and sporting excellence among India’s youth.

Referring to the team’s overall performance, V-P Radhakrishnan noted that the title marked India’s sixth Under-19 World Cup triumph, further strengthening the country’s dominance in age-group cricket.

While applauding the collective effort of the squad, he placed special appreciation on opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi for his record-breaking knock of 175 runs in the final – the highest individual score in an Under-19 World Cup final.

“Brilliant individual performances by his teammates in the run-up to the final were truly inspiring and reflect the promise of a bright future,” the Rajya Sabha Chairman said.

On his own behalf and on behalf of the House, V-P Radhakrishnan extended heartfelt congratulations to the captain, players, coaches and support staff, wishing the young champions many more laurels in the years to come.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also lauded the young cricketers for their historic achievement, praising their skill, determination, discipline and teamwork throughout the tournament. He said the team’s success would inspire youth across the country to strive for excellence in sports and other fields.

“The Indian Under-19 cricket team has achieved a historic feat for the country by defeating England in the final match held in Harare, Zimbabwe, on February 6, 2026, and winning the Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2026,” LS Speaker Birla said. “Throughout the tournament, the young Indian cricketers displayed exceptional skill, determination, discipline and teamwork.”

Congratulating the players, he added that their achievement had inspired young people across India and expressed hope that the victory would motivate aspiring cricketers in the years ahead. The House extended its best wishes to the team for a bright and successful future.
