Parliament Winter Session to start from Dec 4

The Winter Session of Parliament is scheduled to be held from December 4 to December 22, as announced by the Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Pralhad Joshi. The session is set to encompass 15 sittings over a span of 19 days.

The sessions will commence a day after the counting of votes in the state Assembly elections across Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Mizoram. The Election Commission of India anticipates completing the entire electoral process by December 5.
These winter sessions will be conducted in the new Parliament building, inaugurated earlier in the year on May 28 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Parliament's maiden session in this new setting took place on September 19, marked by a special session that deliberated and successfully passed the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, also known as the Women's Reservation Act.

The report of the Ethics Committee on the “cash-for-query” allegations against TMC MP Mahua Moitra will be tabled in the Lok Sabha during the session. The House will have to adopt the report before the expulsion recommended by the panel comes into effect.

Further contributing to the legislative agenda, three pivotal bills aiming to replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), and the Evidence Act are anticipated to be taken up for consideration. The standing committee on Home has recently endorsed the three reports, setting the stage for their discussion during this session.
