PM Modi and Micron CEO engage in strategic talks on semiconductor venture in Gujarat

Mehrotra updated PM Modi on the progress of Micron’s project in Sanand, Gujarat, expressing gratitude for the state and central-level support. Acknowledging India's potential in semiconductor manufacturing, Mehrotra outlined the critical role the country could play in this industry. Micron Technology, a key semiconductor manufacturer, had previously announced an investment of up to $825 million for a semiconductor assembly and test facility in India.

The selection of Gujarat's Sanand Industrial Park for this venture was based on its robust manufacturing infrastructure, conducive business environment, and promising talent pool. The meeting in Gandhinagar was a follow-up to discussions initiated during PM Modi's visit to the United States, where Micron Technology unveiled its ambitious investment plans for India.

Deakin VC explores opportunities in India

Deakin University's Vice-Chancellor Iain Martin explored collaboration opportunities with PM Modi, particularly in the field of cybersecurity. Their conversation centered around strengthening ties between the government and academic institutions, with a focus on research and innovation.

Martin shared insights into Deakin University's commitment to offering Australian education in India at half the cost. The university plans to open its first international branch campus at GIFT City, coinciding with the Vibrant Gujarat festival. The Vice-Chancellor highlighted substantial interest in this initiative, with 500 applications received within the first few days of opening.

“We're bringing Australian education to India at half the cost but with the same degree, focusing heavily on industry needs. Whether in cybersecurity or business analytics, these degrees align with the needs of India and the global market,” Martin stated, emphasizing the university's role in shaping India's national education plan.

Australian High Commissioner Philip Green, leading a delegation to Vibrant Gujarat, expressed excitement about collaboration opportunities in education, agri-tech, infrastructure, and technology. Deakin University's foreign branch campus in India, set to open later this year, aligns with Australia's interest in investing across various sectors in India.
