PM Modi hails exposition of Buddha relics in Leh, highlights cultural significance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed delight over the inauguration of the ‘Sacred Exposition of the Holy Relics of the Tathagata’ in Leh, held on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.

The Prime Minister noted that the revered relics, linked to the ancient Piprahwa Stupa in Kapilavastu and excavated in the late 19th century, embody the enduring teachings of Gautama Buddha.

In a post on X, PM Modi said the exposition, which will continue until May 14, offers a valuable opportunity for people across Ladakh to pay their respects.

He added that the relics will also travel to Zanskar in the coming days, enabling wider public access.

The PM underlined that the initiative is expected to give a significant boost to spiritual and cultural tourism in the region, further enhancing Ladakh’s prominence as a key destination for Buddhist heritage.
