Prime Minister Narendra Modi held discussions with Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font and Argentine President Javier Milei on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties and exploring new areas of cooperation.

In his meeting with President Boric, PM Modi highlighted the growing importance of the Ayurveda sector in deepening India-Chile relations. He noted the increasing popularity of Ayurveda in Chile and emphasized that this sector could offer new opportunities for collaboration in areas like pharmaceuticals, technology, space, and healthcare. PM Modi shared his thoughts on social media, expressing satisfaction with the discussions and the potential for further cooperation.

Chilean President Boric also outlined the discussions, which included the negotiation of a Trade Agreement (CEPA) between the two countries and ways to enhance public-private investment, trade, academic exchanges, and cultural collaborations. Boric noted the vast potential of India, one of the largest economies in the world, and expressed his commitment to strengthening ties through his planned official visit to India next year.

Meanwhile, PM Modi’s meeting with Argentine President Javier Milei focused on the India-Argentina Strategic Partnership. This was the first meeting between the two leaders, and they agreed to boost bilateral relations in sectors such as digital technology, pharmaceuticals, defence, space, energy, and mineral resources.

PM Modi expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, noting that it had been five years since the establishment of the strategic ties, adding vibrancy to the relationship. Both leaders discussed ways to further diversify and deepen the cooperation, particularly in energy, defence production, trade, and culture.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi met with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, reaffirming the commitment of both nations to strengthen their bilateral ties. The two leaders discussed a wide range of issues, including energy, biofuels, defence, agriculture, and more. Modi praised Brazil’s efforts during its G20 Presidency and emphasized the need to improve cooperation in these critical sectors.
