PM Modi launches development projects in Lakshadweep’s Kavaratti Island to boost international tourism

During his address, PM Modi outlined the ongoing construction of water villa projects at Kadamat and Suheli islands, underscoring the government's efforts to elevate Lakshadweep's status on the international tourism map. The recent hosting of a G20 meeting in the archipelago has contributed to establishing Lakshadweep as a sought-after destination for global tourists.

PM Modi noted a fivefold increase in tourist arrivals in recent years and urged travelers considering foreign beach destinations to first explore the pristine beaches of Lakshadweep. He envisioned the islands playing a pivotal role in India's efforts to expand its share in the global seafood market, with the exploration of possibilities such as sea-weed cultivation.

As part of the ceremony, PM Modi dedicated several key projects to the nation, including a submarine optical fiber cable connecting Kochi and Lakshadweep, a “low temperature” thermal desalination plant for Kadamat, a drinking water distribution project, and a battery-backed solar power project. Additionally, he inaugurated a new administrative block and an 80-men barrack at the India Reserve Battalion complex in Kavaratti.

The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for the renovation of the primary health care facility at Kalpeni and the construction of model Anganwadi centers in the islands of Androth, Chetlat, Kadamat, Agatti, and Minicoy.

In a gesture towards grassroots development, PM Modi distributed Kisan Credit Cards, Ayushman Bharat cards, laptops, and bicycles to beneficiaries present at the event. Lakshadweep Administrator Praful Patel and MP Mohammed Faizal were among the dignitaries in attendance.

PM Modi is scheduled to visit Thrissur later in the day, where he will participate in a women's meet titled “Women Power with Modi,” organized by the BJP at Thekkinkadu Maidan. A road show in Thrissur town is also on the agenda, underscoring the Prime Minister's extensive engagement with the region.
