PM Modi lays wreath at Tomb of the Fallen Soldiers in Warsaw

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Poland’s fallen soldiers by laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Warsaw on Thursday. This revered monument honors those who have died in Poland’s wars over the past thousand years, with the tomb itself containing the remains of an unidentified soldier who defended Lviv from the Bolsheviks in 1920.

The Prime Minister’s visit coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Poland. The day began with a grand ceremonial welcome for Prime Minister Modi at the Chancellery in Warsaw, where he was greeted by his Polish counterpart, Donald Tusk.

Following the ceremonial honors, the two leaders held a bilateral meeting, where they agreed to elevate the relationship between India and Poland to a ‘Strategic Partnership.’ Their discussions spanned a range of topics, including trade and investment, science and technology, defense and security, as well as cultural and people-to-people exchanges. They also shared perspectives on various regional and global matters of shared interest.

In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi expressed his satisfaction with the meeting, stating, “I am glad to have met my friend, Prime Minister Donald Tusk. In our talks, we took stock of the full range of India-Poland relations. We are particularly keen to deepen linkages in areas such as food processing, urban infrastructure, renewable energy, and AI.”

“PM Donald Tusk and I also discussed ways to expand cooperation in defense and security. It is equally gladdening that we have agreed on a social security agreement, which will benefit our people,” he added.
