PM Modi, President Murmu pay tributes to Dr BR Ambedkar on his birth anniversary; PM to launch development projects in Haryana

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid rich tributes to Bharat Ratna Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar on his birth anniversary, acknowledging his enduring influence on India’s ongoing pursuit of social justice. Taking to social media platform X, the Prime Minister said that Ambedkar’s ideals continue to inspire the nation in building a self-reliant and developed India.

“On behalf of all the countrymen, I bow down to Bharat Ratna Pujya Babasaheb on his birth anniversary. It is due to his inspiration that the country is dedicatedly engaged in realizing the dream of social justice today. His principles and ideals will give strength and momentum to the creation of an ‘Atmanirbhar’ and ‘Viksit’ India,” PM Modi posted.

To mark the occasion, the Prime Minister is scheduled to launch multiple development projects in Haryana today. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, he will visit Hisar at around 10:15 AM, where he will flag off a commercial flight from Hisar to Ayodhya and lay the foundation stone of a new terminal building. Later, at around 12:30 PM, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of various development initiatives in Yamuna Nagar and address a public gathering.

President Droupadi Murmu also paid homage to Dr Ambedkar through a heartfelt message on X. She praised his resilience in overcoming adversity and hailed him as a multifaceted genius—an economist, educationist, jurist, and a great social reformer.

“On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, the architect of our Constitution, I extend my heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all fellow citizens,” President Murmu wrote. “Despite facing extreme difficulties, Babasaheb earned global respect through his extraordinary achievements. He was an ardent advocate of an egalitarian society and fought tirelessly for the economic and social rights of women and the deprived classes.”

She further added that Ambedkar viewed education as a vital tool for empowerment and social change, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations in nation-building. The President urged citizens to adopt Ambedkar’s ideals and work towards a society rooted in equality and harmony.

Ambedkar Jayanti is observed as a public holiday across India, with schools, banks, and several public sector institutions remaining closed. People across the country pay homage to Dr Ambedkar by offering floral tributes, lighting candles, and organising cultural programs in his memory.

Born in 1891 into a poor Dalit Mahar family in Madhya Pradesh, Dr Ambedkar rose to become the principal architect of the Indian Constitution and the first Law and Justice Minister of independent India. He dedicated his life to fighting social injustice and untouchability, becoming a symbol of empowerment for marginalized communities and earning the title of ‘Dalit Icon.’
