PM Modi shares candid school life memories ahead of ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’

As the exam season approaches, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged with students in a unique and refreshing way at Delhi’s Sunder Nursery, ahead of the 8th edition of ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha.’ In a video shared by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), PM Modi was seen interacting with students, addressing their exam-related doubts, stress, and anxiety, all while keeping the atmosphere light with laughter, jokes, and sweet gestures.

During the interaction, PM Modi also shared some memories from his own school life. He recalled how his teachers made significant efforts to help him improve his handwriting, although, as he humorously mentioned, “Their handwriting skills may have flourished, but mine didn’t.”

The students present expressed their happiness and excitement upon meeting the Prime Minister. One student remarked, “It didn’t feel like we were talking to the Prime Minister; he was just like a friend.” Students from different states, including Kerala, Punjab, Bihar, and Tripura, attended the session, making it a diverse gathering.

In a lighthearted exchange, one student said he came to express his “Dil Ki Baat” (matters of the heart) to which PM Modi quickly responded, “I do Mann Ki Baat, you can do your Dil Ki Baat.”

The Prime Minister also shared valuable advice with the students, focusing on creating a stress-free environment for exams.

The 8th edition of ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’ is scheduled to take place on February 10 at 11 AM. This year’s edition promises a fresh format, with several personalities joining the event to address students preparing for the Board examinations. Some of the prominent personalities attending include Deepika Padukone, Mary Kom, Avani Lekhara, Rujuta Divekar, Sonali Sabharwal, FoodPharmer, Vikrant Massey, Bhumi Pednekar, Technical Guruji, and Radhika Gupta.

The event, organized annually by the Department of School Education and Literacy, will be held in a town hall format at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital. Over the years, ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’ (PPC) has become a nationwide movement aimed at transforming exam-related stress into a celebration of learning.

Since its inception in 2018, PPC has witnessed tremendous growth. This year, the program saw a staggering 3.56 crore registrations, marking a significant increase from the 2.26 crore registrations in 2024, reflecting a rise of 1.3 crore registrations.

The initiative has evolved into a “Jan Andolan” (people’s movement) that resonates deeply with students, teachers, and parents. Its focus on alleviating exam stress and encouraging students to view examinations as a festival, or “Utsav,” has found widespread acceptance across the country.

The remarkable participation in PPC underscores growing awareness around mental well-being and holistic education. The program’s interactive format, which facilitates open dialogue between students, teachers, and the Prime Minister, has been a key factor in its success.

In an effort to further bolster PPC as a nationwide movement, a series of engaging activities were conducted from January 12 to January 25, 2025, coinciding with National Youth Day and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Jayanti. These activities, organized across states and union territories, aimed to celebrate PPC as a festival, engaging students, teachers, and parents in stress-reducing exercises. Over 1.42 crore students, 12.81 lakh teachers, and 2.94 lakh schools participated in the activities.

Students took part in a wide range of activities, including indigenous games like Kho-Kho and Kabaddi, short-distance marathons, creative meme competitions, Nukkad Natak performances, and poster-making contests. In addition, students shared their experiences through testimonials, participated in discussions, and practiced yoga and meditation to cultivate relaxation and mindfulness. Workshops, student-led plays, and special guest interactions further enriched the program.

Since its inception, PM Modi has held the annual ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’ to interact with school students, teachers, and parents, offering tips on how to remain stress-free during board exams. The Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, has been instrumental in conducting the program.

The first three editions of PPC were held in New Delhi in a town hall format. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the fourth edition was held online, broadcast on Doordarshan and major TV channels. The fifth, sixth, and seventh editions were once again held in town hall format at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi.
