Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently in Guyana as part of his three-nation tour, will address a special session of the Guyanese Parliament on Thursday.
As the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Guyana in over 50 years, PM Modi’s address to the Guyanese Parliament will mark his 14th speech before a foreign legislature, giving him the distinction of being the Indian Prime Minister with the most addresses to foreign parliaments.
PM Modi has addressed the U.S. Congress twice—once in 2016 and again in 2023. He has also spoken before the Parliaments of Australia, Fiji, and the UK, as well as legislative bodies in Mauritius, Uganda, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Afghanistan, and the Maldives.
On Wednesday, PM Modi was honoured with Guyana’s highest national award, The Order of Excellence, by President Mohamed Irfaan Ali. The award recognizes his outstanding leadership, statesmanship, and efforts to deepen India-Guyana relations.
The Commonwealth of Dominica also presented PM Modi with the Dominica Award of Honour, acknowledging his exemplary leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and his dedication to strengthening India-Dominica ties.
