PM Modi to inaugurate Vizhinjam Port in Kerala; launch Rs 58,000 cr projects in Andhra Pradesh today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kerala and Andhra Pradesh on Friday to inaugurate and dedicate several major infrastructure and development projects aimed at boosting India’s connectivity and economic growth.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive in Kerala at around 10:30 a.m., where he will dedicate the Vizhinjam International Deepwater Multipurpose Seaport to the nation. Developed at a cost of ₹8,900 crore, Vizhinjam is India’s first dedicated container transshipment port.

Strategically located near one of the world’s busiest maritime trade routes and offering a natural depth of approximately 20 metres, the port is expected to strengthen India’s position in global shipping and trade logistics.

According to an official statement, “It is the country’s first dedicated container transshipment port and represents the transformative advancements being made in India’s maritime sector as part of the unified vision of Viksit Bharat.”

Following the event in Kerala, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, where he is expected to arrive at around 3:30 p.m. There, he will inaugurate, lay the foundation stone for, and dedicate to the nation multiple development initiatives collectively worth over ₹58,000 crore.

These include seven National Highway projects featuring road widening, construction of overbridges, subways, and elevated corridors — all aimed at easing traffic congestion and enhancing interstate travel and logistics efficiency.

Additionally, several railway infrastructure projects will be inaugurated. These include the doubling of the rail line between Bugganapalle Cement Nagar and Panyam stations — a move that will boost connectivity between Rayalaseema and Amaravati — and the construction of a third rail line between New West Block Hut Cabin and Vijayawada stations.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for six more National Highway projects and one railway initiative. These will include the widening of National Highway stretches, the construction of elevated corridors, half cloverleaf interchanges, and road overbridges.

Among the key railway projects is the construction of a Rail-over-Rail line between Guntakal West and Mallappa Gate stations. This project is designed to divert freight traffic and reduce congestion at Guntakal Junction.
