Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday paid floral tributes to Bharat Ratna Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar at the Parliament complex on the occasion of his birth anniversary.
Several other leaders, including Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal, Rajya Sabha member Ramdas Athawale and Congress leader Udit Raj, also paid homage to the architect of the Indian Constitution.
During the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mallikarjun Kharge were seen sharing a brief interaction.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister paid tributes to Dr Ambedkar, describing his contribution to nation-building as deeply inspiring. In a post on social media platform X, he said Babasaheb’s life and work continue to motivate generations to build a just and progressive society.
In a video message, the Prime Minister said Dr Ambedkar symbolised determination and dedicated his life to the cause of equality, particularly for the backward and marginalised sections of society. He noted that despite facing numerous challenges, Babasaheb remained committed to his mission.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid tribute, stating that Dr Ambedkar laid the foundation of Indian democracy by framing a Constitution that guarantees equal rights and opportunities for all citizens.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh remembered Dr Ambedkar as a great social reformer and visionary, who devoted his life to promoting equality, harmony and justice, while contributing significantly to the development of national institutions.
Dr B.R. Ambedkar, born on April 14, 1891, in Mhow (now Dr Ambedkar Nagar) in Madhya Pradesh, was a jurist, economist and social reformer who played a central role in drafting the Indian Constitution. He dedicated his life to eliminating social discrimination and advancing the cause of equality and justice in society.
