Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, with both leaders underlining the need to restore bilateral trade ties to pre-war levels and reiterating support for peace and stability.
In a post on X after the meeting, PM Modi said the two leaders reviewed various aspects of India-Ukraine cooperation and noted that trade flows had been significantly disrupted by the ongoing conflict.
“Met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Evian. In recent times, India and Ukraine have been actively developing interaction, which is reflected in various directions of our cooperation,” the PM wrote on X.
He added, “During today’s talks, we discussed various aspects of our cooperation. We both agree that trade ties need to be restored to the level that existed in the pre-war period. It was also confirmed that India will always be on the side of peace, placing the values of humanity above all.”
India has consistently maintained that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to ending the conflict, while stressing the need to safeguard the interests of developing countries affected by global disruptions. PM Modi has repeatedly emphasised that India’s approach is guided by humanitarian concerns and the pursuit of global stability.
