President Murmu to attend SOAR programme, confer AI certificates on January 1

President Droupadi Murmu will grace a special programme under SOAR – Skilling for AI Readiness, an initiative of the Skill India Mission, on January 1, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre in New Delhi.

The programme is being organised by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and aims to strengthen India’s workforce preparedness for an artificial intelligence-driven future.

Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan and Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary will be present at the event.

During the programme, the President will confer Artificial Intelligence certificates on learners, including students and Members of Parliament. She will also launch the national awareness campaign #SkillTheNation Challenge, aimed at encouraging wider youth participation in future-ready skilling initiatives.

As part of the agenda, the ministry will conduct a special “AI for Beginners” session at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The interactive learning module will be led by a globally renowned AI expert in collaboration with Google, the ministry’s principal partner for AI skilling.

The President will also virtually inaugurate the IGNOU Regional Centre at Rairangpur, which is expected to serve as a key hub for northern Odisha by supporting employability through skill-oriented education and training programmes.

Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship said artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping job roles and skill requirements across sectors. The ministry has prioritised AI skilling with a focus on accessibility, relevance and inclusion through initiatives such as SOAR – Skilling for AI Readiness, aligned with emerging industry needs.
