Prince Rahim Aga Khan V met President Droupadi Murmu and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday during his first official visit to India since assuming the role of the Aga Khan.
Welcoming Prince Rahim Aga Khan V at Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Murmu offered her condolences on the passing of his father, the late Aga Khan IV. She said that Aga Khan IV and the work undertaken by the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) are regarded in India with great respect and affection.
The President appreciated the contribution of the Aga Khan Development Network to various areas of development in India, including water and sanitation, education, maternal health, urban redevelopment, women’s empowerment and employment generation.
She noted that the projects undertaken by AKDN provide strong examples of public-private partnerships, demonstrating how non-profit organisations working in partnership with the government can contribute to improving people’s quality of life.
Prince Rahim Aga Khan V also met HM Shah during his India visit.
Sharing details of the meeting on X, HM Shah said, “Pleased to meet His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V in New Delhi. India cherishes its bond with the Aga Khan Development Network, tied by a shared commitment to human development. Our discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in social development, irrigation, cooperatives, natural farming—including millets—and solar energy. Reaffirmed our shared commitment to advancing these partnerships for sustainable development and the greater good of humanity.”
