Prosperity of India and Malaysia is interlinked: PM Modi during talks

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that India is committed to elevating its partnership with Malaysia to new heights, with deeper and wider cooperation across all sectors, as he addressed delegation-level talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Thanking the Malaysian leadership for the warm reception accorded to him and his delegation, Prime Minister Modi said the hospitality and the manner in which Malaysia’s culture and way of life were showcased would remain etched in his memory. He said the visit reflected the true spirit of friendship between the two nations.

The Prime Minister noted that his third visit to Malaysia and fourth meeting with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim underscored the pace and dynamism of bilateral relations. He said India–Malaysia ties have gained significant momentum and depth in recent years, with cooperation expanding across agriculture, manufacturing, clean energy, semiconductors, skill development and capacity building. He added that defence and security collaboration between the two countries continues to grow stronger.

Prime Minister Modi congratulated Malaysia on its successful chairmanship of ASEAN and expressed confidence that, with Malaysia’s support, India’s engagement with ASEAN would deepen further and expand in scope.

Highlighting the importance of people-to-people ties, the Prime Minister said the nearly three million people of Indian origin in Malaysia serve as a living bridge between the two countries. He referred to his interaction with the Indian diaspora alongside Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, describing it as a special experience that reflected the deep respect and affection they hold for the Malaysian leader.

The Prime Minister said that in the fight against terrorism, the support of friendly nations remains crucial. He also underlined that the prosperity of India and Malaysia is closely interconnected, particularly in the context of global instability.

Describing India and Malaysia as maritime neighbours, Prime Minister Modi said it is essential for both countries to fully harness the potential of their partnership. He said the core message of his visit was clear: India seeks to expand and deepen cooperation with Malaysia in every sphere.

Concluding his address, the Prime Minister once again expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the Malaysian leadership for the warm and gracious welcome extended to him and his delegation.
