PSG edge Tottenham on penalties to win UEFA Super Cup

Paris St Germain came from two goals down to beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 on penalties and win the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday after a dramatic late equaliser forced a shootout.

Tottenham led 2-0 through first-half goals from Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, but Kang-in Lee pulled one back in the 84th minute before Goncalo Ramos headed in Ousmane Dembele’s cross in stoppage time to level the match.

In the shootout, Dominic Solanke and Rodrigo Bentancur scored for Spurs, but Micky’s penalty was saved and Mathys Tel missed. Nuno Mendes converted the decisive spot kick for the Champions League holders.

“We had them exactly where we wanted for 80 minutes… then it shifted,” Spurs coach Thomas Frank told TNT Sport. “I’m proud of the team, the players, the club and the fans.”

The defeat ends Tottenham’s pre-season on a low note ahead of their Premier League opener at home to newly promoted Burnley on Saturday.
