Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday said the RailOne app has recorded 2.57 crore downloads, with an average of 7.64 lakh tickets booked daily (both reserved and unreserved) as of March 15, 2026.
He informed the Lok Sabha that the app was introduced to simplify ticket booking by integrating the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) on mobile phones, alongside conventional counter-based services.
The RailOne app brings together multiple passenger-facing services on a single platform, including reserved and unreserved ticketing, platform tickets, train and PNR enquiry, and Railmadad services, enabling users to access them through a single login. The app also features advanced security and privacy measures.
Passengers can also book reserved tickets through the app and website of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation, he said, adding that approximately 88% of reserved tickets are currently being booked online.
To improve access, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas, Indian Railways engages various categories of agents for ticketing services. These include halt agents, Jan Sadharan Ticket Booking Sevaks (JTBS), Station Ticket Booking Agents (STBA) and M-UTS Sahayaks for unreserved tickets, while Yatri Ticket Suvidha Kendra Licensees (YTSKL) are authorised to issue both reserved and unreserved tickets. In addition, e-ticketing agents are engaged by IRCTC for issuing reserved tickets.
He added that there is no prior experience requirement for most unreserved ticketing agents, making the schemes accessible to eligible individuals, including educated unemployed youth, thereby promoting self-employment. However, YTSKLs are required to have at least two years of experience in railway ticketing.
Agents are appointed for a fixed tenure under defined terms and conditions, with provisions for termination in case of violations. Renewal of appointments and fresh applications after the expiry of tenure is an ongoing process, he said.
