Rajnath Singh honours Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose during Singapore visit

India’s Defense Minister, Rajnath Singh, made a visit to Singapore during his journey back from Indonesia on November 18, 2023. This stopover was a heartfelt homage to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and an exploration of Singapore’s rich Indian heritage.

One of the main highlights was Singh’s visit to the Indian National Army (INA) marker, commemorating Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s vision. The INA marker, established by Singapore’s National Heritage Board in 1995, honors the Unknown Warrior and pays tribute to the bravery of soldiers. Netaji himself laid the foundation stone for this monument in 1945, signifying courage and sacrifice.

In a moment of reverence, Rajnath Singh offered prayers at the Sri Srinivasa Perumal temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This temple, dating back to 1855, holds immense historical and spiritual importance as one of Singapore’s oldest Hindu temples. Singh’s visit emphasized the cultural significance of the Indian community in Singapore.

Additionally, Singh explored the Indian Heritage Centre in Little India. Established in 2015 by the National Heritage Board, this center showcases the rich history and contributions of Singaporean Indians through its five permanent galleries. It stands as a vibrant testament to the enduring story of the Indian community in Singapore.
