Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday reviewed the evolving security situation in West Asia and its implications for India’s defence preparedness, directing officials to draw key operational and technological lessons from the ongoing conflict.
The high-level meeting, held in New Delhi, was attended by senior defence leadership, including the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, Defence Secretary, Secretary (Defence Production), and Chairman of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
During the briefing, the Defence Minister was apprised of the current global and regional security landscape, as well as the potential impact of any escalation in the West Asian conflict on India’s strategic interests. Officials also discussed emerging challenges and opportunities arising from the evolving geopolitical situation.
The review placed particular emphasis on the impact of the conflict on defence supply chains, including procurement, production, and the maintenance and serviceability of existing equipment.
Highlighting the importance of continuous learning, Singh directed that “operational and technological lessons should be studied” to strengthen India’s preparedness in a rapidly changing security environment.
Calling for a forward-looking approach, the Defence Minister stressed the need for a structured long-term strategy. “We need to formalise a comprehensive integrated roadmap for the next decade factoring in the lessons learnt, challenges and opportunities going forward whilst ensuring Aatmanirbharta and operational readiness across all fronts,” he said.
The review comes amid heightened global concerns over the ongoing tensions in West Asia, with India closely monitoring developments to safeguard its strategic and security interests.
