Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya on Thursday chaired a high-level review meeting to assess India’s preparedness for the Commonwealth Games 2026, scheduled to be held in Glasgow.

The meeting focused on strengthening coordination among stakeholders and ensuring an athlete-centric approach to India’s campaign for the Games.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, representatives of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), including the Chef de Mission for CWG 2026, and officials from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) participated in the discussions.

The review covered athlete preparation, training programmes, logistics, welfare measures and coordination mechanisms for the Indian contingent heading to Glasgow.

Mandaviya reiterated the government’s commitment to providing every possible support to Indian athletes to help them perform at their best during the Games.

He stressed the importance of timely planning, seamless coordination among agencies and efficient execution of preparations to ensure a successful campaign for the country.

The meeting also discussed arrangements related to the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games 2026, during which India will officially receive the baton as the host nation for the Commonwealth Games 2030 to be held in Ahmedabad.

In this context, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi and senior representatives from the Gujarat government also took part in the review meeting.

The Sports Minister reviewed ongoing inter-ministerial coordination efforts concerning operational and logistical arrangements for Glasgow 2026, including facilitation measures for the Indian contingent.

Representatives from SAI and the Sports Ministry also presented a roadmap for India’s CWG preparations, including competition exposure, training schedules, deployment of support staff and contingency planning.

The meeting reaffirmed the collective commitment of the Sports Ministry, IOA, SAI and the Gujarat government towards ensuring comprehensive preparations for both India’s participation in Glasgow 2026 and the hosting of the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad.
