Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday addressed party workers on the 47th foundation day of the Bharatiya Janata Party, outlining the party’s governance approach and future priorities, including discussions on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and One Nation One Election (ONOE).
Speaking via video conferencing, the Prime Minister said the party has focused on a service-oriented model of politics, guided by the principle of “Nation First.” He highlighted a series of measures undertaken over the years, including the removal of colonial-era laws, the construction of a new Parliament building, the provision of 10 per cent reservation for economically weaker sections in the general category, the law against triple talaq, implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act, and the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
Referring to ongoing policy discussions, the Prime Minister said debates on the Uniform Civil Code and One Nation One Election reflect efforts towards national integration and streamlined governance. He added that the government remains committed to building a developed and self-reliant India.
Marking the party’s journey since its formation in 1980, the Prime Minister said the upcoming 50-year milestone would serve as an opportunity to set new goals, particularly in the context of rapid technological changes. He extended greetings to party workers on the occasion.
The Prime Minister also contrasted the BJP’s approach with that of the Indian National Congress, stating that the BJP emphasises inclusive governance. Referring to the 1984 general elections, he said public trust in the BJP grew gradually over time.
Highlighting India’s foreign policy, the Prime Minister said the country is now strengthening ties with nations across the world.
The Bharatiya Janata Party traces its origins to the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, which later merged into the Janata Party following the Emergency in 1977. After internal differences, the BJP was formally established on April 6, 1980.
Since its formation, the party has led governments under Prime Ministers Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Narendra Modi.
