The United Nations Human Rights Council has strongly condemned Iranian attacks targeting several countries in the region, calling on Tehran to provide full and immediate compensation to those affected.
The resolution was adopted during an emergency session in Geneva requested by Gulf countries and Jordan to address the human rights implications of what the council described as unjustified attacks. The measure, submitted by Gulf and Arab groups, stated that strikes targeting the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Jordan constituted a violation of international law and a serious threat to international peace and security.The council said the attacks breached the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the affected states and affirmed their “inherent right to self-defence, individually or collectively”, in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
The resolution also condemned “deliberate and unjustified attacks using missiles and drones targeting civilians and vital civilian infrastructure”, while expressing concern over strikes on energy facilities and their environmental and human rights consequences.The council urged Iran to comply with international humanitarian and human rights law, and to adhere to United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 of 2026. It also called for an immediate and unconditional cessation of attacks.
The council further warned that escalating tensions, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, could affect global trade, energy security and supply chains, and said it would continue monitoring developments closely.
