Uttarakhand CM Dhami reviews rescue, relief operations in disaster-affected areas in Champawat

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted an assessment of rescue and relief operations in disaster-affected areas of Champawat district on Saturday.

CM Dhami undertook an aerial survey of several regions impacted by the disaster, including Saryu Valley, Kali Valley, Pancheshwar Valley, Rausal, and Tamli. Following this, he met with district officials at the NHPC Guest House in Banbasa to review the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts in areas affected by heavy rainfall.

During his visit, the Chief Minister interacted with local citizens, who presented various issues and concerns to him. CM Dhami assured them of all possible assistance.

The Chief Minister also evaluated the repair work being carried out on roads and bridges damaged by the disaster. He directed officials to take necessary steps to restore normalcy in the affected areas.

He emphasized the urgent need to restore drinking water and power lines and suggested arranging alternative electricity supply through solar energy via UREDA.

CM Dhami instructed officials to ensure that every disaster-affected individual receives the necessary support and called for the immediate distribution of relief funds to those impacted. He insisted that reconstruction efforts be conducted on a war footing, prioritizing the reopening of closed roads.

Additionally, he directed officials to personally visit disaster-affected areas for on-site inspections and to ensure adequate facilities for the affected populace. He stressed the importance of preventing any inconvenience to the public and urged officers to complete relief efforts promptly.

The Chief Minister asked the District Magistrate to assess the damage in each area and submit a proposal to the government. He also instructed the District Magistrate and the irrigation department to prepare a proposal for a permanent solution to the issues caused by the Sharda River, Haddi River, and Kirora Nala.

CM Dhami noted that the state had experienced significant damage from disasters throughout the year. In light of this, he requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to increase the disaster assistance amount to the state, facilitating immediate reconstruction efforts. He reaffirmed that providing immediate relief funds to the affected population is the government’s top priority.

To address the waterlogging issue at the dry port being developed in Banbasa for Nepal, the Chief Minister instructed NHAI officials to devise a permanent solution.
