World Physiotherapy Day: PM Modi lauds role of physiotherapists in enhancing quality of life

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended his appreciation to physiotherapists across the country on the occasion of World Physiotherapy Day, acknowledging their vital role in enhancing the well-being and dignity of people, particularly the elderly.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “World Physiotherapy Day is an occasion to appreciate the efforts of all those associated with the practice of physiotherapy. It is commendable how they contribute to the well-being of people, especially the elderly, by ensuring mobility, dignity and a better quality of life.”

Observed globally on September 8 since 1996, World Physiotherapy Day highlights the significance of the profession, which has been formally established since 1951. The day serves to raise awareness about the importance of physiotherapy in recovery, rehabilitation, and maintaining physical functionality.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment noted that the occasion is not only a celebration but also a recognition of physiotherapists’ contributions to healthcare. The ministry said physiotherapists play a key role in supporting patients’ mobility, restoring function, and promoting overall health, making their service indispensable to society.
