Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport has achieved global recognition at the 2023 Prix Versailles, with its Terminal 2 (T2) earning the prestigious “Special Prize for an Interior” and being hailed as one of the world's most beautiful airports.
The Prix Versailles awards celebrate outstanding achievements in architecture and design on a global scale. Renowned fashion designer Elie Saab, leading the Prix Versailles 2023 world judges panel, announced Bengaluru airport as the sole Indian recipient of this esteemed recognition, positioning it among the world's elite airports.
Expressing delight at this recognition, Hari Marar, MD & CEO of Bengaluru International Airport Ltd, stated, “The nomination of Terminal 2 for the 2023 Prix Versailles Award fills us with immense pride. Witnessing the well-deserved recognition for T2, with its harmonious fusion of art and technology, is gratifying. Terminal 2 had previously earned the prestigious IGBC platinum certification from the Indian Green Building Council under the IGBC Green New Building Rating system. Designed to accommodate 25 million passengers annually, T2 seamlessly blends functionality with aesthetic appeal, captivating passengers through meticulously curated art and décor elements as part of a recently launched art program.
T2's sustainable design, recognized as the world's largest terminal pre-certified with a platinum LEED rating by the US Green Building Council even before commencing operations, underscores the airport's unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship. Additionally, it proudly holds the esteemed platinum certification under the IGBC green new building rating system, as highlighted in an official release.
