Centre keeps DAP price at ₹1,350 per bag for Rabi 2025–26

The Union Government has maintained the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) of Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) at ₹1,350 per 50 kg bag for the ongoing Rabi 2025–26 season to shield farmers from volatility in international fertilizer prices.

The update was shared in the Rajya Sabha by Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Anupriya Patel in a written reply to a parliamentary question.

According to the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, the government has introduced a special provision of ₹3,500 per metric tonne to maintain the stable retail price of DAP. The additional support covers logistics costs from factory to farm gate, GST components and ensures a reasonable 4 per cent return for manufacturers, preventing price fluctuations from being passed on to farmers.

Officials said the government has also ensured adequate availability of phosphatic and potassic (P&K) fertilizers across the country during the current Rabi season.

As of March 5, 2026, the availability of DAP stood at 71.89 lakh metric tonnes (LMT), significantly higher than the pro-rata requirement of 51.38 LMT. The availability of Muriate of Potash (MOP) was recorded at 18.17 LMT against a requirement of 14.18 LMT, while NPKS fertilizers stood at 108.39 LMT compared to the requirement of 76.48 LMT.

The ministry said fertilizer supplies are monitored through the Integrated Fertilizer Management System (iFMS), an online platform that tracks the movement of subsidised fertilizers across the country in real time. Coordination with the Ministry of Railways ensures timely transportation of fertilizer stocks to states.

The government is also promoting balanced use of nutrients under the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) scheme. Under the revised framework, additional fertilizer grades such as NPK 10:26:26 and 12:32:16 have been incorporated.

The subsidy under the NBS policy is provided based on the nutrient content of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potash (K), allowing farmers to choose fertilizers according to crop and soil requirements.

For the 2025–26 period, the average retail price per 50 kg bag of other key fertilizers includes ₹1,814.82 for NPK 10:26:26, ₹1,711.87 for NPK 12:32:16 and ₹1,710.54 for Muriate of Potash.

The ministry said the policy framework aims to encourage balanced nutrient application in agriculture while reducing excessive dependence on urea and improving long-term soil health.
