Delhi Excise policy CBI case: Court takes cognizance of supplementary charge against BRS leader Kavitha

The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi on Monday took cognizance of a supplementary chargesheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha in the Delhi Excise Policy case.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, after reviewing the chargesheet, ordered Kavitha to appear before the court via video conferencing on July 26 at 2 PM. The court also extended the judicial custody of former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and other accused in the case until the same date.

The court has directed that copies of the supplementary chargesheet be provided to Kavitha’s counsel and other involved parties. The next hearing, scheduled for July 26, will involve scrutiny of the documents presented.

This development follows the CBI’s filing of its third supplementary chargesheet in the case on June 6. During earlier proceedings, CBI counsel DP Singh argued that the influence of the “South Group,” allegedly led by Kavitha, was evident in the policy-making process.

The CBI’s case against Kavitha is built on statements from several witnesses, including TDP MP Magunta S Reddy and his son Raghav Magunta, who reportedly confirmed meetings with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in March 2021.

Kavitha is currently in judicial custody in both CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) cases related to the Delhi Excise Policy. She was first arrested by the ED on March 15, followed by her arrest by the CBI on April 11.
