Delhi’s air quality plunges into ‘very poor’ category amid ongoing cold wave

The air quality in Delhi has deteriorated, reaching the higher end of the “very poor” category, as the city grapples with an ongoing cold wave. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 349 at 6 a.m. on Monday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate fog for parts of Delhi, which is expected to persist throughout the week. Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 23 to 26 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures will vary between 8 to 9 degrees Celsius.

The city is also bracing for thunderstorms and rain on January 22 and 23, while fog is expected to linger on the remaining days of the week. The AQI levels across various areas in Delhi have reached hazardous levels, with Anand Vihar reporting 407, Vivek Vihar at 390, and Wazirpur at 381, among others.

The Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi has predicted that the air quality will remain in the “Poor” category from January 20 to 21. The situation is expected to persist, with the AQI likely to stay within the “Very Poor” to “Poor” range for the next six days.
