Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha adjourned for the day amid ruckus over security breach

Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned for the day on Friday due to persistent chaos caused by the opposition's uproar over the issue of a security breach in the Lok Sabha.

The Rajya Sabha chairman announced the adjournment of the House within minutes of its assembly at 2 pm, as both opposition and treasury benches erupted in a ruckus. Despite the chairman's intention to make an important announcement, verbal spats persisted among legislators from both sides.

In the midst of the cacophony, the chairman adjourned the House for the day, scheduling a reconvene at 11 am on December 18 (Monday).

Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha also faced pandemonium, leading to its adjournment for the day as the Opposition stirred a massive ruckus.

Earlier in the morning session, both Houses were adjourned until 2 pm within minutes of commencing due to a similar uproar created by opposition leaders.

Upon the Rajya Sabha's assembly at 11 am, chaos ensued, resulting in an adjournment shortly after the laying of papers on the table. Three Union ministers made separate statements on government business for the remaining part of the 262nd Session, among other matters. Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar disallowed 23 notices served by opposition MPs under Rule 267, seeking suspension of business for the day to discuss the December 13 security breach.

The Chairman clarified that he had received 23 notices under Rule 267, apprising the House of the facts of the incident, asserting that an investigation is underway and will be taken to its logical conclusion.

Following the announcement, Opposition members initiated a ruckus, urging the Chair to allow a statement by the Leader of the Opposition. The Rajya Sabha chairman then adjourned the House until 2 pm.

“I am constrained to adjourn the House to meet at 2 pm today and request the Leader of Opposition, Leader of the House, and opposition members to meet me in my chamber immediately,” stated the Rajya Sabha chairman.

Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha was also adjourned until 2 pm amidst slogans by opposition MPs over the security breach incident.
