PM Modi attends ‘Veer Bal Diwas’ event in Delhi

Following his reception of a Christian community delegation at his official residence in the national capital on Christmas Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in an event commemorating 'Veer Baal Diwas' at the state-of-the-art Bharat Mandapam in the national capital on Tuesday, thereby reinforcing his commitment to the principle of 'Sabka Saath'.

Later in the day, PM Modi is set to inaugurate a youth march in observance of 'Veer Bal Diwas.'

The government has planned various participatory programs nationwide to enlighten citizens, especially young children, about the extraordinary courage of the Sahibzades, the two young Khalsas honored on this day.

A digital exhibition, illustrating the life and sacrifice of the Sahibzades, will be showcased in schools and childcare institutions across the country. Additionally, a film dedicated to 'Veer Bal Diwas' will be screened nationwide.

Various online competitions, including interactive quiz shows, will be conducted through the MYBharat and MyGov portals.

On the Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji on January 9, 2022, Prime Minister Modi declared December 26 as 'Veer Bal Diwas,' commemorating the martyrdom of his sons Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji.

This day also coincides with the birth anniversary of Udham Singh, a prominent revolutionary who sought vengeance for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar on Baisakhi in 1919 by assassinating General O'Dwyer in March 1940.

Udham Singh, born on December 26, 1899, in Sunam, Punjab, was known as Sher Singh in his childhood.

The Jallianwala Bagh massacre deeply affected Udham Singh, and his act of retribution occurred during General Dwyer's scheduled speech at Caxton Hall in London on March 13, 1940. Concealing a revolver in a book, Singh entered the hall and shot O'Dwyer.

Formally charged with murder on April 1, 1940, Singh adopted the name “Ram Mohammad Singh Azad” while in custody. He was subsequently hanged in London on July 31, 1940.
