T20 World Cup: West Indies beat Italy by 42 runs to enter Super 8 unbeaten

West Indies advanced to the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup unbeaten after defeating Italy by 42 runs at Eden Gardens on Thursday, with Shamar Joseph taking four wickets and Matthew Forde claiming three.

Defending 165, West Indies bowled Italy out for 123 in 18 overs.

Italy lost Justin Mosca early and slipped to 37-3 at the end of the powerplay. JJ Smuts (24) and Ben Manenti (26) attempted a recovery but regular wickets halted the chase.

Joseph returned figures of 4-30, Forde took 3-25 and Gudakesh Motie picked up two wickets.

Earlier, captain Shai Hope scored 75 off 46 balls to anchor West Indies to 165-6 after they lost Brandon King in the opening over. Roston Chase made 24 while Sherfane Rutherford added 24 not out.

Italy bowlers Crishan Kalugamage and Ben Manenti took two wickets each.

West Indies finished the group stage unbeaten and progressed to the Super 8.
