Union Cabinet announces key decisions including India-Italy migration agreement

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Ministry of External Affairs' proposal to sign and ratify the Migration and Mobility Agreement between the Governments of India and Italy. The agreement aims to enhance people-to-people contacts, facilitate the mobility of students, skilled workers, business professionals, and young experts, and strengthen cooperation on issues related to irregular migration.

In addition to this agreement, the Cabinet took several other key decisions:

Consulate General in Auckland, New Zealand:
•    The Cabinet approved the establishment of a Consulate General of India in Auckland, New Zealand. The move is intended to promote India's strategic and commercial interests and provide better services to the Indian community in Auckland.

Cooperation in Broadcasting with Malaysia:
•    The Cabinet approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between India and Malaysia for Cooperation in Broadcasting. The agreement, between Prasar Bharati and Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), aims to strengthen cooperation in broadcasting, news exchange, and audio-visual programs, fostering India's friendly relations with Malaysia.

Minimum Support Prices (MSPs) for Copra for 2024 Season:
•    The Cabinet granted approval for the Minimum Support Prices (MSPs) for copra for the 2024 season. The MSP for this season includes an increase of Rs. 300/- per quintal for milling copra and Rs. 250/- per quintal for ball copra compared to the previous season.

Road Infrastructure Development:
•    Approval was given for the improvement and widening to two lanes with a paved shoulder of the road from km 101.300 (Khowai) to km 236.213 (Harina) of NH-208, covering a total length of 134.913 km in the state of Tripura.

Construction of a New Bridge Across River Ganga:
•    The Cabinet approved the construction of a new 4.56 kilometers long, six-lane bridge across the river Ganga, connecting Digha and Sonepur in Bihar. The project aims to facilitate faster and easier traffic flow, contributing to the overall development of the state, particularly north Bihar.
