The virtual signing ceremony saw the participation of Arjun Ram Meghwal, the Minister of State for Law and Justice from India, and Edwin Tong, the Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister for Law from Singapore.

The MoU highlights the dedication of both countries to cooperate in multiple areas of shared interest, such as international commercial dispute resolution and the advancement of strong alternative dispute resolution mechanisms within their own regions. Additionally, the agreement involves setting up a Joint Consultative Committee responsible for supervising the MoU’s execution.

Speaking on the occasion, Arjun Ram Meghwal emphasized the significance of the MoU, stating, “The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding signifies our collective commitment to deepening collaboration in the field of law and dispute resolution, with a focus on sharing best practices, exchanging expertise, and facilitating capacity building initiatives for stakeholders.” He highlighted the partnership’s aim to harness synergies between the legal regimes of both countries and explore innovative approaches to address evolving needs.

Edwin Tong echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the importance of enhancing cooperation in the legal and dispute resolution fields. He stated, “Given our strong economic and commercial ties, it is imperative for us to continually deepen our cooperation in the legal and dispute resolution fields. This will enable us to better support our businesses and those doing business with Singapore and India.”

By facilitating the exchange of best practices and expertise, the partnership aims to foster efficacious mechanisms for the resolution of disputes through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
