Indian Railways achieves milestone, crosses 1500MT in freight loading

The Indian Railways is on track to record its most remarkable performance yet in freight business, total revenue, and track laying for the fiscal year 2023-24.

Preliminary data released by the Ministry of Railways shows that on Friday, the Indian Railways crossed the milestone of 1500 million tonnes (MT) in freight loading. Previously, it had achieved the highest-ever freight loading of 1512 MT during FY 2022-23.

The ministry said that in the current fiscal year, the railways has recorded a total revenue of Rs 2.40 lakh crore. Meanwhile, its total expenditure stands at Rs 2.26 lakh crore.

Furthermore, the railways logged a footfall of 648 crore passengers during FY 2023-24, marking a jump of 52 crores compared to the same period in 2023, which recorded 596 crores.

The ministry also stated that the Indian Railways has laid 5100 kms of new tracks so far in ongoing fiscal year.
